Tough conditions but a great first ultra — definitely recommended for anyone looking to make the step up to 50km.
I did the Ramsdons 50km as my first ever ultra and came away really pleased with the whole experience. I was also super chuffed to finish 13th overall out of 75, especially given the conditions on the day!
The weather was absolutely atrocious — very windy throughout, with some seriously strong winds over the more exposed sections. Add in all the rain and some parts of the course were incredibly wet and squelchy, with a few paths basically turning into streams! It definitely made for a challenging day.
I really enjoyed the course itself. There was a good mix of terrain and it was mostly off-road, which is exactly what I was hoping for from my first ultra. Despite the weather, it was a great route and there was plenty of variety.
The marshals and volunteers were brilliant. They were really friendly and encouraging all the way round, and given the weather they deserve a special mention for standing out there supporting us.
The venue was also great and worked really well for the event.
The only thing I thought could be improved was the signage. It was generally OK and I didn't have any major problems, but there were a few places where it could have been clearer or more obvious.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Ramsdons 50km to anyone thinking about doing their first ultra. It was a tough day, particularly with the weather, but that's all part of the experience. I really enjoyed it and couldn't have asked for a better introduction to ultra running.
Big thanks to all the organisers, marshals and volunteers for putting it on — especially for doing it in those conditions!

Fun, friendly trail run
Second time I’ve done this and a totally different experience! Weather was very mixed from warm sunshine to sideways high winds and rain. Super well organised, lots of communication. Exemplary aid stations and wonderful volunteers. I’ve not done many trail runs but this one is fab for newbies and experienced trail runners. Only tiny thing would be a bit more signage on the route, but that’s only minor. Well done, a great event. Thank you.

Fantastic 10k with superb trails.
Well signposted route with a mix of terrain. My first 10k and I absolutely loved it.

Only third time running outside! Had a great time.
Loved the event very new to trail running. Something I never thought I would be fit enough to try but anyone wondering about next year sign up now you will love it.

27k course
Friendly and great community vibe. 27k course is interesting with a mix of hills and different terrain. I thought the check points where well placed. All very friendly volunteers. Although it didn't affect me as I recce'd the course the round markers where sometimes not obvious. To help new runners I would use brighter arrows as markers. The new tactic with no markers within the 10k area worked well and I had no problems
Highly recommend

Super route, gorgeous scenery, bonkers weather.
I ran the 10k last year which was terrific and tough for a 10k. The 50k was just the right sort of challenge that a race like that needs. Every type of weather, but it didn’t stop the enjoyment. The number of checkpoints and feed stops was excellent and they were superbly well stocked. And despite the weather everyone involved in putting on the race was all smiles and encouragement. I’ll be back next year.

Fantastic event
Really enjoyed this ultra. As a slower runner, being allowed to leave early meant I didn’t have to stress about cut offs. The route was fantastic and volunteers and fellow runners were both very friendly. One plea for next year - I doubt I’m the only female who could’ve done with a toilet after the first checkpoint… Never bothered about doing a wild wee but there are some things as a woman that you can’t do out on the moors.

Great route, poor signage
Great route, thoroughly enjoyed and would strongly recommend. However, the organisation and signage for the 27km route was exceptionally poor. Multiple runners including myself got lost and various junctions and checkpoints. I would advise direction signage as opposed to be plaques that were used and adding these at all key junctions to remove any ambiguity.

First proper trail run, brilliant route, friendly supportive marshals, well organised.
Being my first proper running event I can’t really compare it to any other but I thought this race was brilliant. I will definitely be looking to run the 2027 one if they put it together. And all done for charity, thanks to all involved and good effort with the testing conditions.
